The annual Lowveld Gashuku has become a cherished tradition. Since 2023, the Gashuku is held at the scenic Mankele Adventures. This event offers a combination of karate training, outdoor fun, and team-building activities, making it a weekend to remember for everyone involved. From intense training sessions to fun games and nature-filled excursions, the Gashuku truly embodies the spirit of karate—discipline, camaraderie, and resilience, while celebrating the joy of shared experiences.
The highlight of the Mankele Gashuku 2024 was undoubtedly the Saturday morning training sessions, which brought together karateka of all levels. Junior and Senior belts trained side by side in a picturesque outdoor setting, embracing the opportunity to learn and grow together. The natural surroundings of Mankele Adventures provided the perfect backdrop for focusing on techniques and kata. Guided by our experienced Senseis, the training emphasized not only technical skill but also the mental discipline and unity that define karate.
While karate training was the cornerstone of the event, the Gashuku also included an exciting lineup of activities that allowed participants to bond and create unforgettable memories. The Gashuku games were a standout feature, fostering a sense of friendly competition and teamwork. These games encouraged participants to push their limits while cheering each other on, reinforcing the strong sense of community within the group.
One of the fun activities of the weekend was the Foefie Slide. This high-adrenaline zipline adventure added a dose of excitement and laughter to the event.
The obstacle course was another major highlight, offering a physical and mental challenge that required determination and teamwork.
The Mankele Gashuku teams, formed for the weekend’s activities, added a layer of excitement and camaraderie. These teams encouraged participants to connect with fellow karateka, fostering friendships and a sense of belonging. Whether competing in games, tackling the obstacle course, or simply sharing meals, the teams created an environment where everyone felt valued and supported.
Sunday morning brought a more tranquil yet equally enriching experience with a group hike through the stunning natural surroundings of Mankele Adventures. This hike offered a chance to reflect on the weekend’s lessons while appreciating the beauty of nature.
Photos captured throughout the Mankele Gashuku tell the story of a weekend filled with determination, joy, and connection. New World Shotokan Karate
Our instructors are accomplished, high-ranking black belts who take their teaching seriously, especially towards children, combining a comprehensive education in well-established, orthodox karate practice and philosophy with modern sports-orientated competition karate.
Traditional karate is about effective self-defence under all conditions. When we refer to traditional karate, we mean more than just kicks, punches and blocks. Shotokan’s founder Gichin Funakoshi emphasized that a fight can end up on the ground, for which you need skills other than kicking, punching and blocking.
